Who is served?:
Children from birth through age 22 with a visual impairment, which is defined by the California Code of Regulations, Title 5, Education, Section 3030(d) as “a pupil (with) a visual impairment which, even with correction, adversely affects a pupil’s educational performance.
Services are provided by:
Madera County Superintendent of Schools staff members who have expertise in education of the visually impaired. They consult with parents and classroom teachers to make necessary modifications for students to find success in their school environment.
Services provided include:
- Consultation for parents, teachers, and administrators
- Specialized equipment and instructional materials including large print textbooks
- Classroom modifications
- Planning and instruction related to the visually impaired child’s unique education needs
- Braille transcription
Where services are provided:
Services are provided within the child’s local school setting in most cases. Home visits may be made for infants and preschoolers.
